The fine print
The bits we have to write down. We've kept them short and in plain English, because nobody should need a lawyer to buy a deck of cards.
Culture Science Cards is run by Neil McGregor from New Zealand. If something goes wrong, or you just want to ask a question, email info@culturesciencecards.com and you'll get a reply from an actual person.
Prices are in New Zealand dollars and include GST where it applies. If you're ordering from outside New Zealand, freight is extra, and your country may add duties or taxes at the border — that part's out of our hands.
Payments go through Stripe. We never see or store your card details.
We aim to get New Zealand orders out the door within three to five working days. International takes longer and varies a lot by destination — if you need it by a certain date, email us first and we'll give you an honest answer.
Tell us within 14 days and we'll sort it out — replacement or refund, whichever works better for you. Send a photo if you can; it speeds things up.
If you've changed your mind and the deck is still sealed, send it back within 30 days and we'll refund you. Return postage is on you. Once a deck's been opened we can't resell it, so we can't take it back for change of mind.
Buy a deck and it's yours. Use it with your team, in your organisation, as often as you like.
What you can't do is copy the cards, make your own version, or build a product from the framework. The methodology and written content belong to Culture Science Cards. The artwork belongs to Gapingvoid Culture Design Group and we use it under licence — so it's not ours to give away either.
If you want to do something with the cards that isn't obviously covered here, just ask. The answer is often yes.
Certification is personal to you. It means you can run sessions for your own clients using genuine Culture Science Cards.
It doesn't mean you can train other people to facilitate, sell the methodology on, or create your own version of the deck. If you're delivering to paying clients you'll need the commercial licence, which is an annual fee on top of certification.
The full detail is in the agreement you sign when you certify. If you breach it in a serious way, we can withdraw your certification — but we'd always talk to you first.
The papers on the Science page are free to download and free to share, as long as you credit the source. We ask for your name and work email so we know who's reading — and so we can let you know when new work is published. Unsubscribe whenever you like.
We promise the cards will arrive as described, that we'll fix it if they don't, and that we'll answer your emails.
We can't promise a particular outcome from using them. The cards create the conditions for an honest conversation — but whether that conversation happens, and what your organisation does with it, depends on things well outside our control. If a session doesn't land the way you hoped, we're happy to talk about what happened, but we can't be liable for it.
Where the law allows us to limit our liability, it's limited to what you paid us.
We collect your name and email when you download a paper, sign up for updates, or place an order. We use it to send you what you asked for and, if you've opted in, occasional updates about new writing or upcoming certification dates.
We don't sell your data. We don't share it with anyone who doesn't need it to get your order to you. Email us and we'll delete it.
These terms are governed by New Zealand law. If we ever end up in a dispute we can't resolve by talking, it'll be dealt with in a New Zealand court.
We might update these terms occasionally. The current version always lives here.
